The purpose of this guide is to help educators and stakeholders understand the need for global education and to provide them with the tools needed to implement the global classroom. This guide is the culminating project of my work with Teachers for Global Classrooms. This program was a year-long professional development that began with an online global learning class, continued with a global symposium, and culminated with a field experience in the Philippines.
Rational for Global Education: We live in a flattened global economy. Students today must be able to be creative thinkers and be able to communicate with a diverse audiences, business partners etc. There has been unprecedented migration in our modern world. The culture and climate of the US and many other countries depends on understanding other cultures, and students must be able to solve conflicts and work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Lastly, our world is facing climate instability, and students must learn the tools for working with other cultures and countries to adapt and solve the world’s climate challenge. We must also understand that we are all stewards of the Earth, and we have a shared responsibility for global sustainability.
